ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois University swimmer Julie Ju was named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
The junior from Shang-hai, China, is the first swimmer to receive the Valley's weekly honors this season.
In three meets this season, Ju has not finished out of the top three in any event she has competed and has placed first in four of the six events she has competed in.
In a dual meet against conference foe Evansville, Ju won the 500 Free with a time of 5:02.40 and continued this past weekend with a win in the 200 Free at Missouri State (1:52.91) and a pair of wins at Drury in the 50 Free (23.98) and 100 free (51.57). All her times, in all four events, are Valley bests for the 2006-07 season.
Additionally, she swam on the 200 Free Relay team at Missouri State that won with a time of 1:36.28, setting a new Hammons Center Pool record. Individually, she set a new Breech Pool record at Drury, in the 100 Free.
The Saluki swimming & diving teams return to action Nov. 3-4 at the Missouri Dual Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
