Men's 3-Meter Prelim Results

CARBONDALE, Ill - In the Friday morning preliminaries in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, Southern Illinois advanced 28 swimmers to tonight's finals.
In the morning's first preliminary, SIU's Danielle Quarry posted the top time in the 400 Individual Medley. The freshman finished the event in 4:35.27.
Also advancing to the A Final for Southern Illinois was Katie Lowry (4:37.18) and Abby Blank (4:41.55).
Moving on to tonight's consolation B Final for SIU was Briley Bergen (4:44.24) and Jenna Helm (4:50.71).
In the men's 400 IM, SIU senior Christian Tinajero will try to defend his title as he advanced to the final after finishing second in the preliminary with a time of 4:06.17.
Missouri State's Eduardo Pajares posted the top time in the event, finishing in 4:03.41.
MSU's Andi Rojas was fastest in the women's 100 Butterfly preliminary, finishing with a time of 57.50.
SIU had two swimmers qualify for the A Final in the 100 Fly. Senior Gabriela Flores was the fastest Saluki, finishing sixth with a time of 1:00.11. She was followed by Rachel Winius in seventh place (1:00.12).
SIU's Lauren Abbott and Brenna Goff both qualified for the B Final. Abbott finished 10th in the preliminary with a time of 1:01.50 while Goff was 14th with a time of 1:01.80.
In the men's 100 Butterfly, Southern Illinois' Stephan Ackerman won the preliminary, finishing three hundredths of a second off the NCAA Qualifying standard with a time of 48.69.
Also qualifying in the event for SIU were Dennis Hedo (50.24) and Ivan Zgomba (50.59).
Four-time MVC Swimmer of the Week Liz Geisler won the women's 200 Freestyle with a time of 1:53.81.
SIU's top finisher was freshman Isabel Madeira who finished third with a time of 1:54.45. She was followed by Kelsey Kinsella with her fifth-place time of 1:56.27.
Elizabeth McGowan also qualified for the A Final, snagging the eighth and final spot with a time of 1:56.99.
In the men's 200 Free, MSU's Matt Beasley took the top spot, finishing the event in 1:37.94. Beasley has won this event two out of the past three years.
He was followed by SIU's Vinicius Waked. Waked finished second with a time of 1:38.32. Fellow Saluki Antonio Santoro came in right behind him in third, finishing in 1:39.98.
Senior Jason Sigler was Southern Illinois' final qualifier in the 200 Free, finishing fifth with a time of 1:42.32.
In the women's 100 Breaststroke, SIU took two of the top three spots, sending newcomer Julie Ju and Nora Bunford to tonight's final.
Ju won the preliminary with a time of 1:04.99 while Bunford finished third with a time of 1:05.93.
In the men's 100 Breast, senior Bryan Riekena was the top swimmer for SIU, finishing second with a time of 56.91. Missouri State's Greg Temple won the preliminary with a time of 56.73.
Also qualifying for Southern Illinois in the event were Jeff Lesniak (58.12) and Miguel King (58.61).
In the final swimming preliminary for the morning, Missouri State's Jordan Hawkins took first place in the women's 100 Backstroke. She finished with a time of 57.74.
Southern Illinois' top finisher was Kelly Dvorak, finishing third with a time of 57.96. Fellow Saluki Holly Hedges advanced to the B Final, finishing 12th with a time of 1:01.91.
In the men's 100 Back, SIU's Gareth McGee and Alexandre Marrucho advanced to the final after finishing third and fourth, respectively, in the preliminary. McGee finished in 50.99 while Marrucho finished in 51.78.
DIVING PRELIMINARY
In the men's 3-Meter Diving preliminary, SIU's Brandon Birchak took first place with a 293.05.
Birchak was followed by teammate Ben Palacios who scored a 280.55. Andrew Flor also finished in the top five, posting a 244.45 on the 3-Meter board.
Rounding out SIU's divers was T.J. Rietveld who finished seventh, scoring a 223.90.
