Women's 3-Meter Prelim Results

CARBONDALE, Ill. - In the Friday morning preliminaries in this week's Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships, Southern Illinois advanced 25 athletes to tonight's finals.
In Saturday morning's first event, Southern Illinois' Kelly Dvorak posted the top time in the women's 200 Backstroke. She finished the event in 2:05.58.
She will be joined by teammate Danielle Quarry in the final as Quarry finished third with a time of 2:07.73.
In the men's 200 Back, SIU picked up the top two seeds as freshman Alexandre Marrucho won the preliminary with a time of 1:50.15, followed by Gareth McGee who finished second with a time of 1:50.23.
SIU placed three swimmers in the 100 Freestyle A Final as newcomer Julie Ju won the preliminary with a time of 52.18.
Salukis Isabel Madeira and Kelsey Kinsella also qualified for the A Final, finishing fourth and sixth, respectively. Madeira swam the event in 53.02 while Kinsella finished in 53.49.
In the men's 100 Free, with less than a second separating first from sixth, SIU took places fourth through sixth to send three swimmers to the final. Missouri State's Matt Beasley won the preliminary, finishing in 45.03.
Stephan Ackerman led the charge for SIU, finishing fourth with a time of 45.71. He was followed by Dennis Hedo in fifth (45.85) and Vinicius Waked in sixth (46.02).
In the women's 200 Breaststroke, SIU's Nora Bunford secured the top spot with a time of 2:24.06. She will be joined in the A Final by teammate Katie Lowry, who finished seventh with a time of 2:28.50.
Kim Grossnickle will represent SIU in the B Final as she finished 11th in the preliminary with a time of 2:31.42.
MSU's Seth Johnson took the first step to three-peating in the men's 200 Breast as he won the preliminary with a time of 2:03.30.
Miguel King was the top finisher for SIU, coming in third with a time of 2:07.84. Christian Tinajero followed King, finishing fifth in 2:07.98 while freshman Jeff Lesniak came in the sixth and final spot with a time of 2:08.37.
In the women's 200 Butterfly, Missouri State's Andi Rojas won the preliminary with a time of 2:07.19.
Three Salukis qualified for the A Final in the women's 200 Fly. Leading the way was Rachel Winius, who finished third with a time of 2:08.91. Abby Blank and Gabriela Flores finished fifth and seventh, respectively.
Blank timed in at 2:10.22 while Flores came in at 2:12.71.
SIU's Lauren Abbott and Brenna Goff qualified for the B Final in the 200 Fly. Abbott finished 11th with a time of 2:16.51 while Goff came in 12th with a time of 2:17.03.
Antonio Santoro led the way for SIU's men's team in the 200 Butterfly. The sophomore won the preliminary with a time of 1:52.27. He will be joined in the finals by teammate Ivan Zgomba, who finished fourth in the preliminary with a time of 1:56.71.
DIVING PRELIMINARY
In the women's 3-Meter Diving preliminary, Missouri State's Stacey Arkovich took first place with a score of 287.00.
SIU's Jessica Leong and Cristina Curtuneanu both qualified for tonight's final, finishing second and third, respectively. Leong scored a 263.40 while Curtuneanu trailed with 250.80 points.
