Lowry earns MVC Swimmer of the Week honors

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois swimmer Katie Lowry of Arlington, Texas, was named the Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

Lowry is the third SIU swimmer to earn the honor as freshman Isabel Madeira picked it up Oct. 26 and Nov. 16, and Nora Bunford earned it Nov. 23.

Lowry, a sophomore pre-med major, won two event's in last weekend's dual meet against Evansville. She won the 400 Individual Medley with a time of 4:37.38 and the 100 Breaststroke with a time of 1:09.06.

The SIU swimming & diving teams return to action Feb. 16-18 as the team hosts the Missouri Valley Championship at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium at the SIU Rec Center. Preliminaries begin Thursday, Feb. 16 at 10 a.m.
