Saluki volleyball defeated by Missouri State in four games

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University volleyball team fell to Missouri State, 3-1 (30-28, 27-30, 21-30, 21-30), Saturday at Davies Gymnasium on "Dig for the Cure" night.
The Salukis were led by Chandra Roberson who recorded a team-high 14 kills and four block assists, and Kelsie Laughlin who recorded 13 kills and nine digs. Roberson also had a match-high two solo blocks.
SIU (12-12, 4-8 MVC) opened with a, 30-28, victory in game one after out-hitting the Bears .263 to .132. With the score tied at 28, the Salukis scored back-to-back points from a kill by Laughlin and a block by Roberson and Brookyln Robbins to put SIU up, 1-0, in the match.
The second game was equally close, however Missouri State (23-3, 12-1 MVC) came away with the win in game two, 30-27. With SIU up, 27-26, MSU scored the final four points to even the match, 1-1. The Salukis out-hit the Bears again in the second game, .302 to .286.
Missouri State went on to take game three and four by the same score, 30-21.
The Shockers put three players in double-digit kills, led by Jamie Adams with 20 kills and 11 digs. Sara Staubach and Shayla Patrick contributed 18 and 10 kills respectively, while setter Katelyn Panzau recorded a match-high 47 assists.
Southern will travel to Creighton and Drake next Friday and Saturday, Nov. 2 and 3 at 7 p.m.
