Swimming and diving completes day two at Purdue Invitational

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's and men's swimming and diving teams are still in fifth and sixth place, respectively, following day two of the Purdue Invitational.
In women's competition Missouri (520) is in first place, followed by Louisville (414), Florida (399), host school Purdue (394), SIU (200), Missouri State (84) and Stanford (63).
Missouri (480) leads on the men's side followed by Purdue (436), Louisville (365), Missouri State (334), Florida (244), SIU (178) and Stanford (67).
The highlight of the day for the Salukis came when senior Julie Ju won the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:03.98. Senior Antonio Santoro was also impressive, placing second in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:38.77.
Therese Mattsson swam well for the Salukis, placing fourth in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:51.91.
SIU's 200-yard medley relay team of Kelly Dvorak, Ju, Abby Blank and Mattsson posted a fourth-place finish with a time of 1:48.21. The men's 800-yard freestyle relay team of Dennis Hedo, Gareth McGee, Zach Harris and Santoro finished fourth with a time of 6:45.68.
In the 1-meter diving competition Emily Gable finished 20th with a score of 190.70. Nicolle Macvey finished in 28th in the event with a score of 164.15.
In men's 3-meter diving, Kyle Carevic finished 12th with a score of 216.10. Alex Moretto and John Mueller placed 17th and 18th with scores of 186.25 and 180.80, respectively.
The Purdue Invitational will conclude tomorrow with the third and final day of action. Preliminary events are set to begin at 10 a.m. with finals following at 4 p.m.
