MVC Swimming & Diving Championships: Day 3 Preliminaries

Carbondale, Ill. - In the Saturday morning preliminaries of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Swimming & Diving Championships the Salukis advanced 15 swimmers to the evening finals.
In the first preliminary event, the 200-yard backstroke, Kelly Dvorak finished first with a time of 2:05.17. Also qualifying for the A final were Danielle Quarry (2:07.76) and Samantha Dvorak (2:09.23), who finished at fourth and fifth, respectively.
Liz Navistsky qualified for the 200 backstroke B final with a 13th-place finish at 2:16.61.
SIU advanced four swimmers to the A final of the 100-yard freestyle. Jordan Hawkins (51.59) of Missouri State finished first, followed closely by three Salukis. Therese Mattsson (52.20), Isabel Madeira (52.22) and Julie Ju (52.26) finished in second, third and fourth places. Also qualifying for the A final was Tovah Gasparovich (53.76) with an eighth-place finish.
In the 200-yard breaststroke, Missouri State's Frannie Moody took first place with a time of 2:23.95. Nora Bunford (2:23.95) and Keli Kramer (2:27.13) also qualified for tonight's A final.
In the final event of the morning session, the 200-yard butterfly, Andi Rojas of Missouri State touched the wall first with a time of 2:06.61. SIU took four of the seven remaining spots in the A final.
Rachel Winius (2:06.97), Lisa Jaquez (2:08.40), Abby Blank (2:09.45) and Kasey Fernandez (2:11.85) all qualified for the top final. Gabriela Flores qualified for the B final with a time of 2:14.11.
Finals will begin tonight at 5 p.m. at the SIU REC Center.
