Women's Tennis splits matches in Charleston

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team traveled to Charleston, S.C. this week and left with one win and one loss.
The win came against Charleston Southern on Tuesday when the Salukis battled for a 4-3 victory.
"Today was a sweet victory for our program," said head coach Rene Vidal. "Charleston Southern is a very talented team and came out very strong in singles play. We did a great job of playing with poise under pressure; both in doubles and singles."
The Salukis started out with a close doubles' point victory as Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Agata Skorupska won the point-clenching match 9-8.
Tsala Mvilongo also pulled out an impressive singles victory over Meryam Tazi, 6-1, 5-7, 6-4.
"Sabine thrives under pressure and fought extremely hard to clinch the victory for the team," said Vidal. "As a team, we're making progress and are preparing for an extremely tough opponent in the College of Charleston."
Unfortunately for the Salukis the Cougars of the College of Charleston were too much to handle and were able to knock off SIU, 4-3.
"College of Charleston has a fine program," Vidal said. "We are disappointed that we did not capitalize on this opportunity. We look forward to competing in North Carolina on Friday."
The Salukis will travel north to Cary, N.C. to take on UNC-Wilmington on Friday at 10 a.m.
