Women's Tennis swept by No. 34 Wichita State

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team was swept by the No. 34 Wichita State Shockers in their final regular season match yesterday, 7-0.
The Shockers (23-2, 8-0 MVC) rolled over the Salukis (11-9, 2-5 MVC) in doubles to take a 1-0 lead early. Madina Rakhim and Florentina Hanisch beat Sabine Tsala Mvilongo and Jessica Flannery 8-0 at No. 1.
Michela Cruise and Martina Vianna Ce fell to Anna Egorova and Stephanie Dalmacio 8-3 at No. 2. WSU completed the doubles sweep when Jackie Richey and Lenore Lazaroiu defeated Amanda Taillefer and Andrea Courtney 8-4 at No. 3
The Salukis were only able to win one set through six singles matches against the Shockers. Michela Cruise won her first set against Dalmacio 7-6, but lost the match 6-7, 6-3, 10-3
The Salukis will be back in action on Friday, April 27 at the 2007 State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Championship in Omaha, Neb. SIU earned No. 6 seed for the tournament and will face No. 3 Northern Iowa at 12:30 p.m.
