Saluki student-athletes will participate in the Illinois Fan Club program, a statewide venture that seeks to collect donations of new fans or monetary donations to purchase fans for needy Illinoisans.
Three collection dates are planned in the southern Illinois area, one in each county of Jefferson, Franklin and Williamson on consecutive dates of July 31 (Jefferson), Aug. 1 (Franklin) and Aug. 2 (Williamson). Each collection will be made at the Peoples Bank location in that county. United Way will serve as hosts for the event.
Saluki student-athletes will appear at the Franklin County (West Frankfort) and Williamson County (Marion) locations. Donations will be accepted between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Members of the football, men's basketball, women's basketball, volleyball, swimming and diving and women's golf teams are expected to be on-hand to collect fans and sign autographs.
"Our student-athletes are excited to participate in this worthwhile cause," said Brooke Morgan, coordinator of life skills for Saluki Athletics. "Fans will go to families in southern Illinois who do not have central air."
