CARBONDALE, Ill. - After dropping the first game against Indiana State, 24-30, the Southern Illinois volleyball team picked itself up and won three straight, 30-21, 30-22, 30-28, to take its first Missouri Valley Conference match of the year in Davies Gym Saturday night.
The Sycamores (3-7, 0-2 MVC) came out strong in game one out-hitting the Salukis (9-4, 1-1 MVC) .239 to .158. Timely kills and clutch digs gave INS the control in the first game.
The Salukis led the majority of the second and third games, but the Sycamores threatened until the end in game four.

Freshman outside hitter Jennifer Berwanger picked up the first double-double of her career with 10 kills and 12 digs, while Brooklyn Robbins recorded 50 assists and eight digs in the win.
The Sycamores were led by Kelly Whitaker and Jodilynne Stoker with 14 kills each. INS libero Kristy Cox recorded a match-high 24 digs.
The Salukis return to action Friday, Sept. 21 when they host the Purple Aces of Evansville at 7 p.m. in Davies Gym.
