OXFORD, Miss. - The Salukis began preseason play this weekend in the Ole Miss Fall Classic in Oxford, Miss.
Jessica Flannery beat Babette Lombardo of Jacksonville State in her first round match. Flannery was then defeated by Troy's Leonie Guijt in the second round.
Michela Cruise and Martina Vianna Ce teamed up in doubles, winning three straight matches to beat Memphis 8-7 in the consolation round.
Amanda Taillefer fell to Kristen Fuller of Jacksonville State 5-7, 5-7 in a final consolation round match.
"During this tournament, we found what we need to work on," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "It's good to get that first match out of the way, so they can settle down and start playing their game.
"We've got some things to work on. It's a lot easier to see what you need to work on when you've gone to a tournament. We're going to take that back to practice."
The Salukis will return to action on Sept. 28 at the Missouri Valley Conference Individuals Championships in Omaha, Neb.
