Daugherty earns 2008 NGCA Founders Award

NEW ORLEANS - Southern Illinois University women's golf head coach Diane Daugherty was honored with the 2008 National Golf Coaches Association's Founders Award at the NGCA Business Meeting on Sunday, Jan. 13 in New Orleans.
The award is given annually to the NCAA coach who fulfills the association's mission of promoting participation in women's collegiate golf and serving the community.
The NGCA's vision is to e"ncourage the playing of intercollegiate golf for women in correlation with a general objective of education and in accordance with the highest tradition of intercollegiate competition."
Daugherty, who is in her 22nd season as head women's golf coach at SIU, capped off an impressive 2007 season by winning the Missouri Valley Conference Championship. For her accomplishments, Daugherty was named MVC Coach of the Year. Daugherty was also named MVC All-Centennial Coach in 2007.
In 2007, Daugherty served as a national teaching instructor for the LPGA Educational Programs. She currently serves as a board member for the St. Francis Animal Shelter and Rescue program as well as the Southern Illinois Regional Social Services (SIRSS).
In October 2007, Diane and her team hosted a golf tournament for SIRSS that raised $5,000 for the charity.
Other accomplishments that qualified Daugherty for the award include her status as co-director of the Hickory Ridge "Hook a Kid on Golf" clinic since 1993. She has served as the Tournament Director of the Illinois High School Association Girls State Golf Tournament since 2003.
