Swimming and diving falls to Missouri State on the road

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Southern Illinois University swimming & diving teams traveled to Springfield, Mo. on Saturday to face the Bears of Missouri State.
While the Salukis competed well, the women came up short, falling to the Bears by a score of 153-147. The Saluki men fell to the Bears, 180-118. Although the Salukis did not win the day's meet, they picked up wins in 15 of the 32 events.
The Salukis started out early with a win in the first event of the meet, the 400-yard medley relay. SIU's team of Kelly Dvorak, Julie Ju, Lisa Jaquez and Therese Mattsson won the event with a time of 3:52.46.
Antonio Santoro picked up the Salukis second win of the day, posting a time of 9:36 in the 1,000-yard freestyle.
Isabel Madeira won the 200-yard freestyle for SIU with a time of 1:55.07. Gareth McGee won the event on the men's side with a time of 1:42.63.
Kelly Dvorak picked up her second win of the day in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.00.
Ju came up with her second win of the day in the 100-yard breaststroke, touching the wall at 1:04.10.
Therese Mattsson won the 50-yard freestyle for SIU with a time of 24.39.
Ju posted her third victory of the day in the 100-yard freestyle, finishing with a time of 52.15. Dennis Hedo won the event for the men with a time of 46.40.
Kelly Dvorak collected her third first-place finish of the day with a win in the 200-yard backstroke, finishing with a time of 2:03.91.
Marcela Teixeira contributed to the Saluki's efforts with a win in the 200-yard breaststroke, turning in a time of 2:24.11.
Santoro collected another win for the Saluki men with a 4:41.95 in the 500-yard freestyle.
Kelly Dvorak picked up her fourth win of the day with a 2:11.91 in the 200-yard IM. On the men's side, McGee won the event with a time of 1:55.47.
The Salukis closed out the event with a win in the women's 400-yard freestyle relay. Madeira, Emily Duerringer, Mattsson and Ju posted a time of 3:32.45 for the win.
The Salukis will be back in action when they travel to Bowling Green, Ky. to face Western Kentucky on Jan. 26.
