CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University swimming and diving team will host New Orleans Friday, Oct. 31 in their first home meet of the season.
The Salukis began the 2008-09 season with a victory over Evansville on Oct. 4. The women defeated the Purple Aces 142-63, while the men also dominated with a final score of 147-57. Head coach Rick Walker is confident coming off the win at Evansville and says he is pleased with the way the season started.
"Now we're going up against New Orleans, which we've never done before," Walker said. "It's a solid program, so this will be a nice challenge for us. I expect our athletes will be up to the challenge and do well."
This will be the third meet of the season for the Privateers of New Orleans, who have competed against Stanford, Incarnate Word and North Texas so far this season. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. at the Rec Center pool.
"It's nice to be home and not have interrupted routines," Walker said. "Their bodies are ready to go, that's how we train them, so it should be fun."
