Men's Swimming and Diving falls to Mizzou

CARBONDALE, Ill. The Southern Illinois University men's swimming and diving team hosted Mizzou in their second home meet of the season. Mizzou grabbed the win over the Salukis, 181.5-110.5.
Alexandre Marrucho, Jameson Kuper, Justin Wolfe, and Dennis Hedo grabbed a second-place spot in the first race of the day, finishing 1:34.32 in the 200 yard medley relay. Tim Silkaitis, Steve Wood, Anthony Bousquet, and Matt Kruse finished fifth with a time of 1:36.88.
Matt Parsons captured a close second place finish in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 9:30.13, by two-hundredths of a second behind Spencer Lauver of Mizzou. David Welker came in fifth with a time of 10:56.70.
In the 200 freestyle, Hedo finished second with a time of 1:40.88 while Ray Sophie finished with a time of 1:55.56 for seventh place. Silkaitis captured the team's first win with of the night with a time of 51.85 for a first-place finish in the 100 backstroke. Marrucho finished third with a time of 52.15, while Jordan Myhre grabbed a seventh-place finish with 53.53. Kyle Riekena came in eighth just behind Myhre with a time of 53.56.
Kuper finished third in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 58.49. Christopher Gaffney finished fourth with 59.42 and Wood grabbed the seventh-place spot with 1:01.57.
Justin Wolfe and Bousquet competed in the 200 butterfly for the Salukis, capturing the second and third place spots. Wolfe finished second with 1:52.15 and Bousquet placed third with 1:54.11.
Hedo finished first in the 50 freestyle with 21.92, Jared Bradd placed fourth with 22.72, Chris Jordan finished fifth with 22.88 and Riekena placed eighth with a time of 23.19.
Hedo captured his third second-place finish of the day in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.99. Jordan finished fifth, Riekena sixth, and Bradd grabbed the eighth-place spot.
Marrucho finished second in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:51.37, while Kuper captured a second-place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:07.08. In the 500 freestyle, Parsons came in a close second behind Mizzou's Cameron Sellers with a time of 4:37.76. Wolfe finished second in the 100 butterfly with 51.32, while Bousquet was close behind in third place with a time of 51.43.
Kuper captured the Saluki's second win of the day with a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.59. Marrucho finished second with a time of 1:59.08. The Salukis won the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:09.06. The team consisted of Parsons, Kruse, Bousquet, and Riekena.
Sun Belt Diver of the Week, Justin Ruszkowski placed third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 261.60. Kyle Carevic placed fifth of 198.90 and Nathan Day grabbed the sixth-place spot with a score of 189.80. Ruszkowki also placed third in the 3-meter dive with a score of 299.40, while Carevic and Day finished right behind, respectively.
