MVC Swimming and Diving Championships: Day 3 Preliminaries

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 2008 State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships continued this morning with preliminaries in four events.
Kelly Dvorak started the Salukis off with a first-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:04.26. Also qualifying for the event finals for SIU were Danielle Quarry (8th, 2:08.39), Samantha Dvorak (13th, 2:12.24) and Rachael Slattery (16th, 2:16.16).
Therese Mattsson picked up another first-place finish for SIU in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.88 seconds. Also qualifying for the finals in the event for SIU were Isabel Madeira (3rd, 52.84), Emily Duerringer (5th, 53.24) and Tovah Gasparovich (8th, 53.97).
Illinois State's Tracy Deyell collected a first-place finish in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:23.62. Qualifying for the finals for the Salukis were Julie Ju (2nd, 2:23.78), Marcela Teixeira (3rd, 2:25.10) and Keli Kramer (7th, 2:30.14).
Missouri State's Andi Rojas-Jimenz took first-place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:06.81. SIU qualified Lisa Jaquez (2nd, 2:07.14), Abby Blank (6th, 2:08.73) and Kasey Fernandez (10th, 2:14.55) for the event finals.
Finals for the four events as well as the 1,650-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay will begin at 4 p.m. at the SIU Student Recreation Center.
