Swimming and Diving earns MVC post-season honors

SAINT LOUIS - The Southern Illinois University women's swimming and diving team capped off their season by landing nine athletes on the Missouri Valley Conference First Team, five on the league's Honorable Mention team and 10 on the Valley's Scholar-Athlete Team.
In addition to the league lists, the Salukis also took home both the MVC Swimmer of the Year and Diver of the Year titles. Senior Julie Ju took home the highest swimming honor for the second-straight season and sophomore Emily Gable collected the diving accolade for the first time in her career.
SIU placed Emily Duerringer, Kelly Dvorak, Emily Gable, Tovah Gasparovich, Lisa Jaquez, Julie Ju, Isabel Madeira, Therese Mattsson and Marcela Teixeira on the All-MVC First Team.
Salukis earning honorable mention nods were Abby Blank, Kasey Fernandez, Keli Kramer, Karen Mullendore and Danielle Quarry.
Earning spots on the Valley's Scholar-Athlete Team were Blank (3.81, English), Duerringer (3.80, Psychology), Kelly Dvorak (3.72, Communication Disorders), Jaquez (3.44, Community Health Education), Kramer (3.00, Recreation), Madeira (3.92, Economics), Mattsson (3.92, Kinesiology) Natalie McLean (4.00, English Education), Mullendore (3.73, Spanish) and Lindsey Smith (3.80, Journalism).
