Swimming and Diving hosts Missouri State, first home conference meet

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team hosted Missouri State in their first home conference meet of the season. The Salukis won 15 events in their meet against the Bears. The Salukis won on the women's side 126-117, while the Bears took the win on the men's side 127-116.
Kelly Dvorak, Marcela Teixeira, Kasey Fernandez and Emily Duerringer placed first in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:29.57, while Kyle Riekena, Christopher Gaffney, Jordan Myhre and Chris Jordan grabbed a third-place finish on the men's side (3:30.00).
Matt Parsons finished first in the 1000 free with a time of 9:33.65, three seconds ahead of Missouri State's Vic Riffel. On the women's side, Jennifer Kwok grabbed a third-place finish with 10:32.39.
Both the men and women dominated in the 200 free, Dennis Hedo grabbing a win for the men with 1:41.29 and Isabel Madeira finishing first for the women with a time of 1:52.95. The two seniors also won the 100 free, Madeira recorded a winning time of 51.96, while Hedo finished with a time of 46.02.
Therese Mattsson and Anthony Bousquet both finished first in the 50 free, Mattsson finishing with 23.98, while Bousquet recorded a time of 21.53.
The Bears grabbed wins in the men and women's 200 IM, with Danielle Quarry finishing third (2:11.95) and Jameson Kuper fourth (1:56.14).
Emily Gable won the women's 1-meter dive with 237.97, as well as the 3-meter dive with 263.11. Former Sun Belt Diver of the Week, Justin Ruszkowski won the 3-meter dive (293.47) while placing second the 1-meter dive (277.13).
Mattsson finished first in the 500 free, grabbing her second win of the night, with a time of 5:04.00.Kristin Geppert earned her first win of the night recording a first-place finish in the 200 breast with a time of 2:21.61.
The men's 400-freestyle relay team consisting of Matt Kruse, Bousquet, Hedo and Tim Silkaitis finished first with a time of 3:05.57. The women, Duerringer, Madeira, Mattson and Tovah Gasparovich placed first with a time of 3:30.40.
