Mattsson named MVC Swimmer of the Week

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois swimmer Therese Mattsson was named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week, earning the weekly honor for the second time this season.

Mattsson grabbed three first-place finishes this weekend as the Salukis hosted Western Kentucky. Mattsson finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:49.95, ranking No. 4 in school history. This marks the fourth time this season Mattsson entered the record books. Mattsson's 51.51 finish in the 100 free grabbed her another win, just missing an entry into the top five in SIU history for the 100 free. As a member of the 200 free relay team, Mattsson helped her team to a win recording a time of 3:30.01.

The Salukis will host Evansville this weekend in the team's last regular-season meet. Saluki seniors will be honored at the meet, which is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Rec Center pool.
