Swimming and Diving sweeps Evansville on Senior Day

Carbondale, Ill.- The Southern Illinois Swimming and Diving team captured victories in every event to sweep the Evansville Purple Aces on Senior Day at the Edward J. Shea Natatorium.
Eight seniors were honored during the meet as they swam their final regular season home meet including Emily Duerringer, Dennis Hedo, Alex Marrucho, Danielle Quarry, Kelly Dvorak, Isabel Madeira, Karin Mullendore, and Ray Sophie.
A Saluki finished in front in each event as the team concluded its final home meet of the season.
The meet started off with a win in the women's 200 yard medley relay finishing with a time of 1:49.17 while the men followed also with a first place victory coming in at a time of 1:35.25.
Jennifer Kwok earned the first individual title of the day with a win in the 1650 yard freestyle finishing with a time of 17:37.47 while Matt Parsons did the same in the men's 1650 yard freestyle coming in at 16:17.72.
Tovah Gasparovich and Matt Kruse won the women and men's 200 yard freestyles while Therese Mattsson took home wins in the 50 yard freestyle.
In diving, Emily Gable won both the 1 meter and 3 meter dive while Justin Ruszkowski won the same events on the men's side.
Danielle Quarry and Cesar Perez-Martinez took home firsts in the 400 Yard IM while Therese Mattsson and Matt Parsons won the women and men's 100 yard butterfly.
In the 100 yard frestyles Emily Duerringer (53.25) and Anthony Bousquet (48.07) each placed first in the 100 yard freestyle.
Isabel Madeira (1:02.48) and Alex Marrucho (52.02) won the 100 yard backstroke while Kelly Dvorak (5:09.09) and Justin Wolfe (4:42.94) each won their heats of the 500 yard freestyle.
The meet concluded with wins by Dennis Hedo (58.07) and Marcela Teixeira (1:06.28) in the 100 yard breaststroke and Saluki victories in the 200 yard freestyle relay.
The Salukis will next host the MVC Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 12-14 at the SIU Rec Center while the men will compete in the Sun Belt Championships in Nashville, Tenn. on Feb. 19-21.
