Saluki women finish fifth, men eighth at Notre Dame Invitational

South Bend, Ind. - The Southern Illinois cross country team showed its strength over big time opponents as the women finished in fifth place while the men took eight at the Notre Dame Invitational Friday evening.
The women finished fifth in the Gold race with 164 points behind Megan Hoelscher's 14th place finish with a time of 18:18 while Emily Toennies was second best for the Salukis in 20th place at 18:26.
The Saluki women finished behind first place Grand Valley State, Dayton, Calvin College and Eastern Michigan University.
A'Seret Dokubo finished 25th with a time of 18:33 while Ryan Eichelberger came in 48th at 19:01.
Jamie Pfister (57th, 19:10), Nefeteri Williams (70th, 19:16), Toni Whitfield (97th, 19:38), Kalyn Cherry (101st, 19:52) and Kristian Baldwin (147th, 20:59) also competed for the Salukis.
On the men's side, the Salukis finished in eight place in the Gold race with 236 points behind the performance of Mohamed Mohamed, who competed for the first time since 2007.
Mohamed came in eight place overall with an 8K time of 24:03 with Jeff Schirmer following closely behind in 11th place with a time of 24:07.
The Salukis finished behind champions Washington, Providence College, New Mexico, Butler, Arizona State, Florida State and Tulsa while beating out nationally ranked teams No. 28 Notre Dame and No. 30 Princeton.
Jason Ordway finished third for the Salukis in 55th place at 24:50, Neal Anderson finished in 76th place with a time of 25:03 and Kyle Kirchner came in 86th with a time of 25:08.
Brad Wrage (105th, 25:26), Greg McBride (123rd, 25:38) and Thomas Fielder (17st, 26:46) also competed for the Salukis.
Next up for the Salukis will be the Bradley (University) Classic in Peoria, Ill. on Oct. 16th.
