Sheoran-Delsart doubles team advances at ITA Central Regionals

NORMAN, Okla. - The doubles pair of Vishakha Sheoran and Melanie Delsart opened doubles competition with a win Thursday on Day Two at the ITA Central Regionals in Norman, Okla.
Delsart, who is participating in her first collegiate tournament, and Sheoran prevailed in the first round over fellow MVC players Florentina Hanisch and Lenore Lazariou of Wichita State, 8-5.
In other doubles action, the duo of Martina Vianna Ce and Michela Cruise was ousted by Jennifer Holmberg and Wiveca Swarting of Nebraska in the first round, 8-0. Meanwhile, Jessica Flannery and Jennifer Dien were also defeated in the first round, falling to Nebraska's Madeleine Giebert and Stefanie Weinstein, 8-0.
In singles action, three Salukis competed in the main draw. However, all three could not pull out victories. Sheoran fell to Tulsa's Ewa Szatkowska 6-2, 6-3. In addition, Delsart was defeated by Valentina Starkova of Arkansas 6-4, 6-4, while Dien was bested by Magdalena Wiecha of Minnesota 7-6, 6-1.
"We played some tough competition," said head coach Audra Nothwehrr. "We also played in some tough conditions today: drizzle, wind and cold."
