MVC Swimming and Diving Championships: Day 1 Preliminaries

CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 2009 State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships kicked off this morning with preliminaries in three events.
In the first event of the day, the 500-yard freestyle, Keli Kramer took seventh place with a time of 5:06.55. Freshman Jennifer Kwok grabbed a ninth-place finish with a time of 5:06.64, while Jill Weckbach finished 15th with 5:13.86.
In the 200 IM, Kelly Dvorak will advance to finals after placing second with a time of 2:06.95. Danielle Quarry and Kristin Geppert also qualified for SIU. Quarry finished ninth with a time of 2:11.19 and Geppert placed 13th with 2:11.68.
The Salukis advanced five swimmers in the 50 free during the preliminaries this morning. Therese Mattsson finished second with a time of 23.33. Isabel Madeira finished fifth with a time of 24.11, with Tovah Gasparovich right behind with 24.18. Emily Duerringer. Krystle Kutak finished 16th for the Salukis with a time of 25.21 to qualify for the finals.
The finals for these three events along with the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay will begin tonight at 6 p.m.
