MVC Championships Day Two Preliminaries

CARBONDALE, Ill. - Day two of the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference kicked off this morning with preliminaries in the 400 IM, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, and 100 back.
Danielle Quarry finished fourth in the 400 IM with a time of 4:36.54, automatically qualifying for the finals.
The Salukis advanced to swimmers in the 100 fly. Samantha Dvorak finished third with 57.18 while Kasey Fernandez finished right behind with 57.89 for fourth place. Dvoark and Fernandez each broke their personal records with their finish in the preliminary race.
SIU grabbed four of the top-eight finishes in the 200-yard freestyle. Therese won the event with a time of 1:50.52, breaking the MVC Meet Record for the second year in a row. Isabel Madeira finished fifth (1:53.80), Emily Duerringer grabbed a seventh-place finish (1:54.23), while Tovah Gasparovich rounded out the top eight with a time of 1:54.84.
Marcela Teixeira, Krisitin Geppert and Keli Kramer all advanced to the finals in the 100-yard breaststroke. Teixeira finished second (1:06.49), Geppert finished fifth (1:07.22) and Kramer grabbed an eighth-place finish with a time of 1:07.62.
In the final event of the morning, the 100-yard backstroke Jordan Hawkins of Missouri State broke the MVC record and pool record with a time of 55.82. Kelly Dvorak finished second with 56.38 to advance to tonight's finals.
Action will resume tonight at 6 p.m. with finals in each of these events as well as the 1-meter dive.
