Carbondale, Ill.-The Southern Illinois women's tennis team picked up another crucial Missouri Valley Conference victory as it defeated Illinois State, 5-2.
After the Salukis claimed the doubles point, the match was interrupted by rain shortly after beginning singles play and was forced to move indoors to SportsBlast where they held off for a 5-2 victory.
"It was one of their goals this season to defeat Illinois State, we haven't beaten them in two years and winning the doubles point was big today," Head coach Audra Nothwehr said.
Fadzai Mawisire pulled out another big win at No. 1 singles to move into a tie for 4th place on the SIU career wins in a spring season with a record of 18-1.
Mawisire and partner Ame Blacketer were also victorious at No. 1 doubles while Blacketer, Michela Cruise and Martian Vianna Ce all picked up singles victories.
