The Southern Illinois University swimming and diving programs earned academic honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America this week.
Both the men's and women's teams, coached by Rick Walker, appeared on the Division I Team Scholar All-American rankings for the 2009 spring semester. The men's team ranked sixth in the nation with a team GPA of 3.36. The women were 45th with a team GPA of 3.33.
"This honor is a tribute to the hard work of both our student-athletes and our academic support staff," Walker said. "Our program remains committed to excellence in the classroom."
Walker, who is a four-time Missouri Valley Conference Coach of the Year (1995, 1996, 1998 and 2002), has seen his teams earn CSCAA Academic All-American honors 15 times during his 22-year career at SIU.
