Carbondale, Ill. - The Southern Illinois cross country teams both picked up wins at its own Saluki Invitational on Saturday morning.
A'Seret Dokubo and Jason Ordway led the way for their respective teams with Dokubo finishing second at 18:34.4 while Ordway finished first in a tight men's lead pack with a time of 26:25.2.
The women finished first with 34 points behind second place Dokubo, Emily Toennies in third with a time of 18:49.1 and Megan Hoelscher in fourth at 18:52.1.
"It was a good day on the women's side," Head coach Matt Sparks said. "I was excited to see A'Seret run well being a senior and one of the exciting thing about the women's team right now is that we've had three different runners finish on top in the first three meets."
Other finishers for the women included Ryan Eichelberger (9th, 19:14.4), Kalyn Cherry in (18th 20:11.7), Toni Whitfield (25th,20:36.4), Nefeteri Williams (28th, 20:43.9), Kristian Baldwin (35th, 21:24.9) and Julia Mangler (46th 22:16.3).
Kayla Brown of SIU-Edwardsville won the 5K with a time of 18:27.0.
The SIU men's squad again showed its dominance as it placed in the one through five positions with Jason Ordway leading the way.
Kyle Kirchner was second with a time of 26:25.4 while Neal Anderson came in third at 26:25.5 and Jeff Schirmer in fourth with a time of 26:26.6.
"On the men's side it was good for Jason Ordway, Kyle Kirchner and Jeff Schirmer to kind of break the rust off and get a little bit race ready even though they just really raced within themselves," Sparks said. "And just to get out and put your uniform on again it's nice to do that on your home course and get ready for a big meet next Friday."
Also finishing for the men included Greg McBride (5th, 26:27.8), Brad Wrage (7th, 26:48.5) and Jared Milam (15th, 27:27.4),
The Salukis will next compete on Oct. 2 at the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
