Groome named MVC Swimmer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois sophomore Kirsten Groome has been named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office Tuesday.

Groome put together a solid performance in SIU's tri-meet against the University of Kentucky and the University of Missouri last weekend in Carbondale. She recorded two individual first place finishes in the 500 (5:00.44) and 1000 free (10:13.86), as well as a second-place time in the 200 fly (2:06.09). Groome was also the only returner for Southern on the fifth-place 400 free relay team (3:40.16).

This is the first time this season Groome has won this award and the fifth time in her young career.

Evansville's Sadie Wells was named MVC Diver of the Week.

Groome and the Salukis will return to the pool Saturday, Oct. 30, when they host conference foe Missouri State at 2 p.m.
