Groome named MVC Swimmer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois sophomore Kirsten Groome has been named Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week. The announcement was made by the conference office Tuesday.

Groome recorded two first-place finishes over the weekend in SIU's MVC dual-meet victory over Missouri State, in the 1000 free (10:15.12) and the 200 fly (2:07.78), bringing her season total to five first-place times. She was also a member of the winning 400 medley relay team.

This is the second time this season Groome has won this award and the sixth time in her young career.

Evansville's Sadie Wells was named MVC Diver of the Week.

Groome and the Salukis will return to the pool Friday, Nov. 5, when they travel to Champaign, Ill. for a tri-meet with Illinois and Michigan State beginning at 4 p.m. CT.
