Eight Salukis represent SIU at USA Swimming National Championships

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Eight Saluki swimmers are in the midst of competition at the USA Swimming National Championships at Ohio State University.
El Badrawi, Kristin Geppert, Csaba Gercsak, Matt Kruse, Matt Parsons, Cesar Perez, Justin Wolfe and Steve Wood all recorded qualifying times within the past year to earn the honor to participate in the event. They represent SIU against the nation's top collegiate, club, and Olympic swimmers.
The meet began Thursday morning with preliminaries in eight events. Wolfe, Badrawi, Kruse and Parsons teamed up to finish 15th in the country in the 50 free relay. Individually, Kruse and Wolfe finished 48th and 49th in the 500 free and 50 free. In the 100 medley relay, Perez, Wood, Wolfe and Badrawi combined for a 17th-place finish.
Friday morning, the same 100 medley relay team competed in the 50 medley relay prelims and recorded the same result, clocking in at No. 17.
Gercsak notched the highest individual finish for SIU, touching in at 4:01.44 in the 400 IM prelim to finish 39th. In the 100 fly prelim, Wolfe and Parsons finished at 44 and 63, respectively, while Kruse finished 55th overall in the 200 free prelim.
Representing the Saluki women, Geppert swam in the 100 breast preliminary, finishing in 69th place.
These national championships will conclude on Saturday, with preliminaries beginning at 8 a.m. CT. In addition to the 100 free relay, five Salukis will see action in four individual races - Perez (200 back), Badrawi (100 free), Parsons (200 fly), Wolfe (200 fly) and Gercsak (1650 free).
