Results: Day Two Preliminaries
CARBONDALE, Ill. - The 2010 State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships continued Friday morning with preliminaries in five events.
Southern Illinois' Kirsten Groome continued to break records, setting a new MVC record with a first-place finish in the 400 IM preliminary at 4:25.60. Jessica Anderson and Melissa Larocque both qualified for the B final in the 400 IM.
The trio of Samantha Dvorak, Kasey Fernandez, and Marcela Teixeira will represent Southern in the 100 fly B final tonight.
Therese Mattsson won the 200 free preliminary with a season-best time of 1:49.96, earning her a spot in the A final. Tovah Gasparovich and Jill Weckbach will both compete in the B final.
In the 100 breast, Kristin Geppert and Teixeira took first and third to advance to the A finals, while Keli Kramer and Susan Minkel qualified for the B final.
Dvorak finished fifth in the 100 back and will be the only Saluki swimming in tonight's final for that event.
With the 1-meter diving preliminaries taking place this afternoon, the final races for these events will begin at 6 p.m. Tonight's competition will also include the 200 medley relay and the 800 freestyle relay. SIU will look to improve upon their current second-place standing to Missouri State.
