Results: Day Three Preliminaries
CARBONDALE, Ill. - Saturday morning marked the final round of preliminary races for the State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Swimming and Diving Championships.
Senior Samantha Dvorak finished second in the 200 back, breaking her season-best time at 2:06.00 and qualifying her for the A final tonight. Jessica Anderson finished at 2:12.53 and will compete in the B final.
Therese Mattsson captured first place in the 100 free preliminary with a time of 50.75, and Tovah Gasparovich finished sixth at 52.49. Both Salukis will compete with the top-eight in the A final this evening.
Kristin Geppert, Marcela Teixeira and Susan Minkel all qualified for the A final in the 200 breast, while Keli Kramer will compete in the B final.
In the 200 fly, freshman Melissa Larocque swam her way into the top-eight with her own season-best time of 2:10.21, and Jennifer Kwok qualified for the B final.
The championships will conclude with finals for these events as well as the 1650 freestyle, 3-meter diving, and 400 freestyle relay beginning this afternoon at 4 p.m. Southern Illinois (437 points) is in a close race with Illinois State (452 points) in pursuit of second place.
