Starting Pitchers
SIU - LHP, Jimmy Cornell
ASU - RHP, Andy Ferguson
Top 1
SIU had runners on first and third with two outs, but were unable to come up with a run. Chris Serritella walked and Tyler Bullock drove him over to third with a single through the right side before the inning ended
Bottom 1
Arkansas State scored five runs off of two hits. SIU's Cornell walked three batters in the inning and hit two. ASU catcher Kyle DeGrace and shortstop Jordan Kimball both had two-RBI singles in the inning.
Second Inning
Both teams went three-up and three-down in the second. Cornell settled in after a tough first inning and struck out two in the second.
Top 3
Southern Illinois got two runs back in the top of the third off two hits. Freshman designated hitter Nick Johnson led off the third with a single to right in his first career at-bat. Center fielder Chris Murphy drove him is with a double two right center. Murphy would go on to score on a Michael Stalter groundout to the shortstop.
Bottom 3
The Red Wolves pushed their lead back up to five with two runs off two hits and one Saluki error.
SIU 2, ASU 7 after 3
Top 4
Third baseman Tony Lepore doubled to the wall in right center with two outs, but SIU was unable to bring him home.
Bottom 4
Right-handed pitcher Daniel Ettienne came in to pitch for Cornell at the bottom of the fourth. He walked one, but got three ground outs in the inning.
Top 5
Salukis went three-up and three down.
Bottom 5
Arkansas State scored three runs off of four hit in the fifth. Junior Andrew Bever came in with two outs in the inning for the Salukis. He recorded the final out with runners on first and third thanks to a leaping catch by Chris Murphy in center on a hard liner.
Top 6
Brock Harding's triple to the wall down the right field line drove in Michael Stalter to make it a 10-3 game.
Bottom 6
SIU's Bever did not allow a hit in the bottom half of the sixth.
Top 7
The Salukis loaded the bases with two outs. Michael Stalter drilled a linner, but right to the center fielder to end the inning with no runs.
Bottom 7
Arkansas State added four more runs in the seventh to push its lead up to 14-3.
Top 8
SIU loaded the bases with one out in the eighth. Jordan Sivertsen led the inning off with a single, then pinch-hitter Blake Pinnon singled and another pinch hitter Austin Montgomery walked. That led to a RBI single by Chris Murphy that brought home Sivertsen. Aaron Roberts then lined into a double play to the shortstop to end the inning.
ASU leads 14-4
