Groome named MVC Swimmer of the Week

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Saluki swimmer Kirsten Groome was named State Farm MVC Swimmer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday, for her efforts against Western Kentucky this weekend.

This is the fourth time this season Groome has earned this award.

Groome collected a total of three first-place finishes in SIU's last dual meet of the season. In addition to earning top honors in the 400 IM and 200 fly, Groome beat her own personal best in the 1000 free. Her time of 9:55.39 is currently No. 1 in the MVC and No. 24 in the country.

Bethany Olson of Northern Iowa was named MVC Diver of the Week.

Southern Illinois and Northern Iowa, along with Missouri State, Evansville, and Illinois State, will compete in the State Farm MVC Championships Feb. 11-13 in Carbondale, Ill.
