WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Distance swimmer Kirsten Groome of Southern Illinois wrapped up her 2009-10 season Saturday evening at the NCAA Championships hosted by Purdue University.

In the last race of her freshman campaign, Groome finished 38th in the country in the 1650 freestyle, swimming 16:41.49.

The final race capped off a breakout first season for Groome, who was four-time Missouri Valley Conference Swimmer of the Week as well as MVC Swimmer of the Year.
