CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois baseball team's only run scored was walked in during the eighth inning to keep its 43-game streak without being shutout alive, but Southeast Missouri State crippled the Salukis as they won 13-1 on Tuesday at Abe Martin Field.

SIU's fifth consecutive loss drops it record back to 16-21 on the year and the Redhawks improve to 22-14.

"They had some pitchers that stuck it to us," head coach Dan Callahan said. "They kept of off balance all day and whether it was 3-1 or 13-1, we weren't going to win today. They were better than our pitchers today and they were better than our hitters today."

The Salukis only mustered up six hits on the day and just three in the final seven innings. Southern Illinois struck out eight times and if it wasn't for three walks by Southeast pitcher Jacob Wente in the eighth that forced home a run, the Dawgs would have been shutout.

Senior shortstop Michael Stalter finished the day by going 2-for-4, as he was the only Saluki with two hits.

Southeast Missouri State starting pitcher Nick Thomas threw six scoreless innings and yielded just four hits. He struck out six Salukis and four of them went down looking. Thomas registered the win, improving to 5-0 on the year.

SIU junior right-hander Andrew Bever (1-2) picked up the loss and SIU used five different pitchers on the mound.

Redhawk designated hitter Casey Jones did the most damage, as he went 4-for-6 with six runs driven in. Third baseman Jim Klocke's seventh inning homer run was the only one hit in the game and he finished with four RBIs.
