CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois pitching coach Tim Dixon has accepted a position with the U.S. Air Force Academy to be the Falcons new assistant coach.
Dixon, who will be the top assistant and pitching coach on Maj. Mike Kazlausky's Falcon staff, will start at Air Force on Aug. 2.
"We are going to miss Coach Dixon," Saluki head coach Dan Callahan said. "He has been a tireless worker, on and off the field, and we appreciate his contributions to Saluki Baseball. This is an entirely new set of responsibilities he faces with the Air Force Academy, and we wish him well. This is also a new chapter in his life and we hope this ends up being a great move for Tim and his fine family."
Dixon was a member of the Saluki staff for four seasons, coming to SIU in 2007. He mentored seven Major League draft picks in his time in Carbondale, including three that were taken in 2010. That is the most draft picks SIU has had since 1996. Cody Adams, a second round pick (62nd overall) of the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008, is the fourth highest draft pick in Saluki history.
Dixon also coached a freshman All-American (Bryant George, 2007) and five all-conference pitchers (George - three times, Adams, Adam Curynski, Nathan Forer and Randy Hoelscher). George, a 13th round pick of the Los Angeles Angels in 2010, set the school record for career saves (30) and appearances (101) under Dixon's tutelage.
