Tennessee State (2-2)

SIU VS. TENNESSEE STATE
The Salukis are 2-1 all-time against the Tigers with the lone loss coming last season 57-43 in Carbondale. TSU enters the matchup on a two-game winning streak after posting back-to-back convincing victories over Lipscomb and Cumberland last week. The Tigers beat Lipscomb 80-54 and Cumberland 78-48. Junior guard Jasmin Shuler has been TSU's go-to scorer through their first four games, averaging 18.3 points per game. She has shot a blistering 44.1 percent (15-for-34) from beyond the arc. Sophomore forward Tayla Foster is second on the team with an average of 9.0 points per game while Junior center Destiney Gaston averages 8.3 points per game and leads the Tigers with an average of 5.3 rebounds per game.
SALUKIS RUN PAST CHICAGO STATE
Five Salukis scored in double figures as SIU beat Chicago State 76-54 Sunday at SIU Arena. The win helped the Salukis end an MVC-record 22-game losing streak. Southern raced to a 39-19 lead by halftime and never looked back. Brooke LeMar led SIU with perhaps the best game of her career, scoring a career-best 15 points with six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Cartaesha Macklin was second on the team with 13 points while Charnise Mitchell and Antishia Wright both scored 12 and Teri Oliver added 10.
DROPPING DIMES
SIU's 20 assists against Chicago State marked the most the team has had since posting 20 against Murray State Nov. 17, 2006. It was the first time SIU has finished a game with a positive assist-turnover ratio since the 2010-11 season.
FROM MO-VALLEY TO O-VALLY
Tennessee State is one of five Ohio Valley Conference programs the Salukis will face during the 2011-12 season. SIU lost to OVC member Austin Peay to open the season and the Salukis will also face OVC schools SIU Edwardsville, UT Martin and Murray State during their non-conference slate. The Salukis are 118-37 all-time against the current roster of OVC schools.
SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY
The Salukis' 2011-12 roster features plenty of southern flavor as seven SIU players hail from southern states. SIU has three players each from Tennessee (Sidney Goins, Raquel Miller, Alexus Patterson) and Florida (Antishia Wright, Cartaesha Macklin, Dyana Pierre) and senior Charnise Mitchell is from Alabama.
