SCOUTING BRADLEY
The Braves stand eighth in the MVC standings after posting a 66-59 win over Evansville Thursday night. Bradley overcame a 23-22 halftime deficit for its first win in four games. Senior guard Raisa Taylor led three Braves in double figures with 17 points while junior Leah Kassing had 12 and sophomore Katie Yohn had 11. Yohn leads Bradley with 13.4 points while Taylor is second at 2.2 points per game. Junior center Latasha Hollingshed leads the Braves with an average of 6.8 rebounds per game and Taylor leads the team with 3.4 assists per game. Bradley comes to Carbondale as one of the top rebounding team in the conference with an MVC-leading +5.2 rebound per game margin.
SERIES WITH BRADLEY
SIU leads the all-time series between the two teams 41-18.
THE LAST TIME THEY MET
SIU struggled offensively and fell victim to a hot-shooting Bradley squad in an 80-44 loss Jan. 21 in Peoria. The 36-point margin of defeat was Southern's third-largest of the season. SIU turned the ball over 30 times and managed just 14 field goals while allowing the Braves to shoot for a blistering 48.3 percent from the floor. CiCi Shannon led the Salukis with 11 points, seven rebounds and six blocks while Renee Reed chipped in 10 points.
SALUKIS FALL OFF AFTER STRONG START AGAINST NORTHERN IOWA
Southern stuck with league leader Northern Iowa through the first 13 minutes Thursday night, but let the Panthers run away in the second half for a 68-41 win. CiCi Shannon scored 10 points and pulled down seven rebounds to lead Southern while Jordyn Courier scored nine points and Teri Oliver netted eight.
SALUKIS VS. THE STATE
Southern Illinois is 226-129 all-time against other schools in the state of Illinois. The Salukis fell to in-state rivals Northern Illinois, Bradley and Illinois State this season and still have their second matchups with Bradley and Indiana State remaining.
AVOIDING UNWANTED HISTORY
The Salukis enter the matchup looking to end a inglorious run and avoid making the wrong kind of school history. Southern's current 14-game losing streak is its worst since falling in 14 consecutive contests between the end of the 2003-04 season and the beginning of 2004-05. The program's longest losing streak was 15 games during the 2001-02 season. The Salukis' 13 straight losses to start MVC play are their worst since losing their first 13 in 2001-02. Bradley's 1998-99 squad is the only team in Valley history to go winless in conference play, and teams have finished with just one win six times, including Southern's 2004-05 squad.
