The Southern Illinois baseball team hits the road for four games in what is the last week of the 2011 regular season. SIU plays at Saint Louis Tuesday night at 7 p.m. and then heads to Terre Haute, Ind. to face Indiana State in the final Missouri Valley Conference series this year. The Indiana State series begins Thursday night from Bob Warn Field.
Southern Illinois has won 19 games this season and 14 of those have come on the road. SIU is 6-3 in Missouri Valley Conference road games.
Saint Louis beat SIU, 8-4, in Carbondale back on March 18. SIU out-hit the Billikens 12-11, but the Salukis stranded 11 on-base. Saint Louis scored three runs in the first inning and four in the fourth to beat the Salukis.
Southern Illinois leads the all-time series, 56-15, over the Billikens. SIU has won seven out of the last nine with the second loss coming at Saint Louis in 2009 when the Billikens shutout SIU, 4-0.
The Salukis are hitting .270 as a team away from home this year and have just two players (Chris Murphy and Wes Neece) batting above .300 on the road. SIU averages 4.3 runs per road game.
Southern Illinois has won just two of its last six games and has given up over six runs per game during that stretch. SIU is 2-20 this season in games which its opponent scores six or more runs.
SIU won its last non-conference game, 9-0, against Illinois on May 3. The Salukis had 14 hits in that game and only gave up six to the Illini.
