Matthews, Rushing named to NGCA All-American Scholar Team

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - Alisha Matthews and Ashleigh Rushing have been named to the 2011 National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team, announced by the organization.
This is the first season that SIU has placed two student-athletes on the lis since 2004-05, when the duo of Samantha Sutzer and Natalie Parker took home honors.
Matthews, a junior from St. Louis, Mo., is a two-time NGCA scholar recipient having won the same honors in 2010. This season for the Salukis, Matthews carried a 76.9 average and has also been named a MVC Scholar-Athlete in each of her three seasons including first team honors this season. Matthews also posted a team low 18-hole round of 71 at the Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invite and earned two top 20 finishes in the and a 22nd overall finish at the MVC Championships. She is a recreation major specializing in leisure services and holds a 3.727 GPA.
Rushing, a freshman from Marion, Ill., averaged a 81.1 this season as she competed in all 10 of the Saluki's tournaments. She helped lead the team to their first team title in three years at the Saluki Invitational where she finished tied for fourth and posted a 7th place finish at the Cardinal Classic, where she shot her season low round of 73. Rushing is an English-education major and maintains a 3.56 GPA.
A total of 566 women's collegiate golfers recognized with this prestigious honor. In order to be selected, the student-athlete must carry a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50.
