Women's Tennis finishes play at ITA Regional

TULSA, Okla. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Regional tournament this weekend, where Melanie Delsart and Anastacia Simons finished with a 4-1 doubles record and advanced to the semifinals.
By advancing to the final four, Delsart and Simons set a school record, surpassing last year's round of 16 finish. Included among the duo's wins was a victory over a No. 2 seeded and nationally ranked doubles team from Kansas (8-6).
In other Saluki action, the doubles team of Natasha Tomishima and Jennifer Dien defeated a team from the University of Nebraska in the opening round (8-3).
In singles play, Tomishima advanced to the main draw by defeating players from Arkansas State and Central Arkansas in the qualifying draw. In the main draw, she beat Simona Horsikyan of Central Arkansas (6-3, 6-1) before falling to No. 2 seeded Sam Vickers of Tulsa (6-0, 6-1). Delsart defeated Haley Martin of Oral Roberts (6-3, 6-4) in her singles opener, later falling to Patricia Veresova (6-1, 4-6, 6-2) in the second round.
The Salukis will be back in action Nov. 2, when they travel to Jonesboro, Ark. for the Arkansas State Tournament.
