SIU VS. SEMO
SIU leads the all-time series with regional rival Southeast Missouri State 23-6, although the Redhawks have won the last four meetings and the two teams have not played since the 2005-06 season. SEMO enters Wednesday's game with a 4-4 overall record. The Redhawks' scoring is balanced between four players that average between eight and 10 points per game. Allyson Bradshaw leads the team with an average of 10.5 points per game while Brittany Harriel (10.4 ppg) Ballie Roberts (9.8 ppg) and Jordan Hunter (8.8 ppg) are close behind. Patricia Mack leads the Redhawks with an average of 8.5 rebounds per game while Hunter averages 3.9 assists per game.
LAST TIME THEY MET
SIU went into halftime with a one-point lead before SEMO opened the second half with a 26-4 run to blow by the Salukis 74-63 on Nov. 29, 2005 in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Erin Pauk led three Salukis in double figures scoring with 19 points while Tatiana Conceicao posted 27 points to lead the Redhawks.
LEADING THE SALUKIS
Cartaesha Macklin leads SIU in scoring through its first six games with an average of 14.7 points per game while sophomore Rishonda Napier is second on the team at 9 points per game. Dyana Pierre leads the Salukis with an average of 10 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game while Macklin averages a team-high 3 assists per game.
MURRAY STATE RACES BY SALUKIS
Turnovers and poor shooting cost SIU in a 67-55 loss to Murray State Saturday in Murray, Ky. Southern turned the ball over 20 times and struggled from the 3-point line as the Racers nailed nine treys on 17 attempts for 52.9 percent. Cartaesha Macklin led SIU with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Dyana Pierre added 12 points and 10 rebounds and Jameeka Bouie chipped in 11 points. Mariah Robinson led the Racers with 23 points on 6-of-7 shooting from 3-point range and Kelsey Dirks added 12 points and 10 rebounds.
FROM MO-VALLEY TO O-VALLEY
SEMO is the second of three Ohio Valley Conference opponents the Salukis will face this season. Southern played OVC member Murray State Saturday and will also play SIU Edwardsville Dec. 21. Southern is 120-40 all-time against the current roster of OVC schools.
PIERRE IN RARE AIR
Redshirt-freshman center Dyana Pierre has really come on strong for SIU in its last three games, averaging 12.3 points, 14.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game over that span, including a career day of 16 points and 19 rebounds against IPFW. Pierre's 19 boards against the Mastodons were tied for the 10th most in SIU history for a single game, and were the most by a Saluki since Stephany Neptune broke the school record with 28 against Murray State during the 2009-10 season. Pierre leads the MVC in blocks with 2.3 per game and ranks second in the Valley in rebounding at 10.0 per game.
