ORLANDO, Fla. - The Southern Illinois women's tennis team wrapped up its spring break trip in Florida with a 6-1 win over Rhode Island today.
The Salukis (8-2) played their third match in three days and dominated the Rams (5-7) in singles play, winning all six matches.
SIU was led by junior Melanie Delsart, who defeated Pam Emery at the No. 1 position, (6-3, 6-2), while sophomore Korey Love collected her first win of the spring season defeating her Rhode Island counterpart (6-0, 6-1).
"We didn't play well in doubles play, but we really turned it on in singles play today," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "This whole week was good for our mental toughness, we played many matches that went three sets."
Southern's lone doubles win came by freshman twins Ariadna Cairo Baza and Gisela Cairo Baza, who defeated a Rhode Island duo at the No. 3 position (8-1).
The Salukis will be back in action next Saturday, March 24, when they travel to Saint Louis to face the Billikens.
