Salukis sweep BU, 7-0 to close out regular season

PEORIA, Ill.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team closed out the regular season, sweeping Bradley, 7-0.
The Salukis (16-5, 5-2 MVC) wasted no time as they swept Bradley in doubles play. The duo of Melanie Delsart and Korey Love defeated Corey Mattson and Carly Miles 8-4 at the No. 1 spot. Jennifer Dien and Natasha Tomishima defeated their BU counterparts 8-3 at the No. 2 slot. Twins Ariadna Cairo Baza and Gisela Cairo Baza finished off the doubles sweep by beating their opponents 8-6.
"We really bounced back from yesterday, we really played well all-around," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "Bradley is a lot deeper than they were last year, and they have a lot of girls that can really play."
The Salukis notched straight-set wins in all singles matches played including at No. 1 where Delsart defeated Elizabeth Przystawsk 6-0, 6-0. Ariadna Cairo Baza picked up her fourth straight win when the defeated Meredith McDonagh 6-0, 6-4 at the No. 5 position.
Southern will now await its seeding in the upcoming Missouri Valley Conference tournament. The first round of the conference tournament is scheduled for Friday, April 27 in Omaha.
