OMAHA, Neb.- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team defeated conference rival Creighton this afternoon, 6-1, improving to 2-0 in conference play.
The Salukis (12-3, 2-0 MVC) took the doubles point from the Bluejays winning at the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles slots. Korey Love and Melanie Delsart defeated their opponents 8-4, while Anastacia Simons and Anita Lee clinched the point, winning their match 8-5.
"We started off pretty slow in doubles," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "Tomorrow we will have to come out a little stronger early in the match."
Southern came out in singles and dominated CU, winning five of six matches. Natasha Tomishima defeated her Bluejay counterpart in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2. Junior Jennifer Dien bounced back from her recent slump and defeated Kelsey Schmidt, 6-3, 6-1. Melanie Delsart won her match at the No. 1 slot, 6-2, 6-1, to mark her ninth win in-a-row.
The Salukis will be back in action tomorrow, when they travel to Wichita, Kans. to take on the nationally ranked Shockers.
