Wolfe completes action at U.S. Olympic Trials

OMAHA, Neb. - Justin Wolfe finished action at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials with an eighth-place finish in his heat of the 100-meter butterfly. Wolfe swam the long course in 56.27 seconds.
"This was an incredibly opportunity for Justin, being the first swimmer in 12 years to make it here," assistant coach Scott Olson said. "He was walking and talking to past and future Olympians. Having him wearing his Saluki cap and representing Southern Illinois University was a special experience."
Wolfe is the first SIU male swimmer to compete in the Olympic Trials since Matt Munz in 2000 and just the second Saluki since 1992. Wolfe is coming off a junior campaign in which he won the 100-yard butterfly at the MAC Championships for the second year in a row. He earned first-team All-Conference honors, won 10 events and placed second in four events in the 2011-12 season.
Three current SIU swimmers are set to compete in the Olympics for their respective countries. Pamela Benitez (El Salvador), Csaba Gercsak (Hungary) and Mazen Aziz (Egypt) will all compete in the 2012 London games.
Michael Phelps posted the fastest time in the prelims with a time of 51.80. Complete results from the 100-meter butterfly can be found here.
