Larocque earns MVC Leadership & Service Award

ST. LOUIS - Southern Illinois senior swimmer Melissa Larocque has earned the Missouri Valley Conference Leadership & Service Award for the winter season, the conference announced Tuesday. The award goes to the student-athletes who are in good academic standing and demonstrate good citizenship through sportsmanship and community service.
Larocque holds a 3.748 GPA in elementary education. She is a women's swimming representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and made the Dean's List five times. She is a three-time member of the MVC honor roll, a two-time MVC Scholar-Athlete Team selection and earned the MVC Commissioner's Academic Excellence Award in 2011.
In addition, Larocque has contributed to the MVC "Just Read" program, Santa's Shoeboxes, Natalie's Toy Drive, Relay for Life, Parrish Elementary Pumpkin Festival, Cairo Upward Bound, Giant City Elementary Family Fun Night, March of Dimes, Doc Spackman Triatholon, the American Heart Association Car Wash and more. In the pool, Larocque is a three-time All-MVC selection, earning honorable mention honors in 2010, 2012 and 2013.
