MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Southern Illinois women's tennis team fell to No. 31 Memphis earlier today, 7-0.
Senior Melanie Delsart fell at flight No. 1 (6-2, 6-4) to No. 39 Courtney Collins. Natasha Tomishima fell short at the No. 2 spot (7-6(7), 6-4) to end her nine-match winning streak while Anastacia Simons was defeated at flight No. 6 (6-2, 6-1).
"Although the team score didn't reflect it, we really gave them some great matches," said head coach Audra Nothwehr. "I saw some of the best tennis I've seen all season and we had matches that could have gone either way."
The Tigers (12-4) took the doubles point from Southern (10-2) after Delsart and Simons suffered a loss at the No. 1 position, 8-2 and the duo of Tomishima and Dien were defeated, 8-2.
The Salukis will travel to Jonesboro, Ark. tomorrow to take on Arkansas State. First serve is scheduled for 10 a.m.
